Participants are required to attend all trainings within the series and will be applying directly what they learn from the initial training into their practice. The second training will give those participants the opportunity to reflect upon their experiences while extending upon the topic. For this series, this GPS is geared to administrators, directors, and those serving in a leadership role. Participants will be looking into Emergency Planning and Preparedness and how it pertains to the Incident Command System. There will be an Extended Learning Opportunity attached to this series as well, which will provide participants with additional hours online through fema.gov. Dates are March 8 and March 22nd. Both sessions are from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. Training is open to all NH Child Care Programs.</p>

<p>Goals of this training:</p>
<ul>
<li>You will understand that change happens in a predictable set of stages and that the way you help needs to reflect this.</li>
<li>You will understand that motivation is not “something you have or not have”- it’s on a continuum and what you say and how say it will influence it.</li>
<li>You will leave the training with at least two motivation enhancing tools to add to what you already do when working with families.</li>
</ul>
<p>  What is Motivational Interviewing? It is a directive person-centered style of communication that enhances motivation to change by helping the person clarify and resolve their ambivalence about change.</p>

<li>Indentify what are the challenging issues example: reducing children’s exposure to second hand smoke</li>
<li>Describe the constructs of motivational interviewing</li>
<li>Describe the basic principles of motivational interviewing</li>

<li>Recognize levels of readiness to consider change</li>
<li>Demonstrate how to conduct a brief intervention regarding tobacco use and other issues</li>
