Starting a Child Care Business

Some child care programs operate as Licensed-Exempt providers and some are licensed through the Child Care Licensing Unit.

You can contact your CCR&R for information on child care in your town to help determine the need for child care. Your CCR&R can discuss various considerations with you. Your CCR&R can also let you know how they can be of assistance to you during the licensing process. If you choose to operate as a Licensed-Exempt Provider, you will need to contact your local CCR & R office as each agency has its own policies and procedures for being on their database for referrals.

If you would like to become a licensed provider, contact the Child Care Licensing Unit (CCLU) for a licensing packet. This cost of this packet is $15. The packet includes a copy of the licensing regulations as well as all of the forms you will need for licensing. You can also download many of the licensing forms from the DHHS website, however some forms are Non Carbon Reproducible (NCR) and must be ordered directly from the CCLU.
